Compensation with the Use of Axial Compesators

a) For compensation of dilatation movements there can be used "conventional" axial compensators, too. In case of this solution it is necessary to respect the fact that the pre-insulated pipeline forms a compact unit and from this viewpoint exceeding of shearing stress in the insulating layer can occur at a big dilatation step. On this account, in the routing the sliding foils between the steel pipe and insulation are used, these foils are placed in line according to design and temperature conditions in points of greatest pipeline movement.

b) The more often used axial compensators are so-called lightener (axial compensators with a short stroke). In the routing they are used for sections, where they reach the full stroke (closing) at Tp. Herewith they catch the dilatation, which would have to be compensated by expansion cushions or by pre-tensioning, and assure, that the temperatures above TP and their fluctuation show as a tension in the pipe and not as a movement. The lighteners are set in particular sections according to calculation!
